Take out at home?
There are so many recipes that you can make at home that are better than take out. Mostly I like to do stir fry. I have come across so many Asian shrimp recipes that are so easy and so good. Anyway, I have bought egg rolls out, and frozen, my dad loves Chinese food and egg rolls. One day I decided to try and make them at home. I have made home made pot stickers at home pretty time consuming. I found an egg roll recipe a couple years ago made them, pretty easy, a little time consuming but totally worth it.
I wanted to make them last week to go with a shrimp stir fry but I couldn't find the recipe I used but I think I remember it.....here it goes.
1 pound ground pork, you can use ground turkey or chopped cooked shrimp
1 head of cabbage, shredded
4 medium carrots, shredded (you can buy the cabbage and carrots shredded)
3 tbls grated ginger
3 cloves of chopped garlic
3 tbls of soy sauce
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp of black pepper
1/4 tsp of red pepper flakes
1 package egg roll wrappers
Brown ground pork until no longer pink, add ginger and garlic and salt and pepper, red chili flakes, sauté 1-2 mins. Add shredded cabbage and carrots, add soy sauce, stir and sauté until cabbage is wilted and moisture has absorbed. Let cool for an hour or so.
On the back of the egg roll wrappers it will show you how to fill. Heat cast iron skillet to medium fill with 1/2 inch of oil, when oil is hot place in 3 eggs rolls, cook until brown then flip over and brown other side. remove from oil and place on a plate lined with paper towel to absorb oil.
I serve with sweet chili sauce, hot mustard and hoisin or soy sauce for dipping. Enjoy!
